The little things add up

Back in early 1950’s there was a lot going on in china and it was centered around taking the country out of poverty. Mao ze dong, the then leader at the time called the campaign the great leap forward. Personally after looking at what transpired, you can call this the great leap backwards. Its actually quite interesting though because you expect people in positions of power to have people aro

und them to be educated on such matters of commonsense ecology. I am not an ecologist, but I know one thing, if you remove one thing or alter that thing and upset natures balance you will get a result. And more times than not, you are not going to like that result. Imagine killing off an animal’s food source population or killing off a pest’s [ locust ] main predator that keeps their numbers down. Well, that is what exactly happened with mao’s great leap forward, he ordered that all sparrows be exterminated. After that feat was nearly accomplished after a 2 year campaign, the locust population sky rocketed and ate up all the crops that the great leap forward was supposed to be blessing the nation with.

Like I said earlier where was the ecologist at that was supposed to tell mao “no, that will cause a famine because the locust numbers will explode!”? Usually people in positions of power, especially individuals who run a country, have a whole list of career professionals at their disposal. I mean its very simple logic, if you don’t know what you’re doing then seek the ones who have devoted their lives to whatever problem your facing. This is where the ego does damage, over inflated ego, and in this case it caused 15 million deaths, making it the worst man made ecological disaster to date. China already has the hugest population, so they need to pay extra careful to anything they do concerning agriculture, ecological modifications, etc etc. Actually it wasn't even just 1 pest the campaign was focused on, it was 4; rats, mosquitoes, flies, and sparrows. Remember how I said budgeting is key, because their population is already really huge? Well this lady who calls herself the welfare queen located within the UK, with 11 children has the same problem as china but on a micro scale, china being macro.

Bottom line is don't let your ego get too big, no actually i lied, just seek professional help when needed. When you have tooth pain you go to the dentist, and when your vision is blurry you go to the eye doctor, pretty simple. The environment is much like a stack of dominoes, one piece removed can cause everything to collapse. Right now also in nature, there is a looming threat with mosquito populations in north america, because all the bats are dying from some white fungus disease. So yea, the environment is a lot more complicated then it looks, hopefully the current Chinese administration which is the CCP, doesn't make the same mistake and learn from previous ruling parties choices, because their population's food security depends upon it.
