So today we’re going to re-visit something I said in an earlier post about fashion. I re-call saying that when it comes to fashion and school I have socialist views, and I also said I’m not a communist. I recently watched a video [ I’ll post it below ] about north korea and k beauty, and it really surprised me.
So alittle about north korea, everyone knows it’s a dictator country led by the kim family and it is a enemy of the united states. In this documentary about k beauty [ the k stands for korean ], it gave an undercover look into the world of north korea beauty smugglers, basically they smuggle beauty products for women in north korea. You might ask, why do they do it? They do it because in the north korean dictatorship you’re not allowed to dress how you want or look how you want as a woman, everything is standardized. So the smugglers were women, and they were literally risking their lives just to bring k beauty products from south korea [ a democracy and enemy of the north ] to the north.
In the interview the smuggler said that hundreds of orders for her was small, so yea, more like thousands of orders.
North korea doesn’t play around, you could be executed or put into a labour camp if you get caught doing what the smugglers are doing, because like I said north korea already has standardized looks for women which is the law. The smuggler being interviewed wears k beauty products as well, and you could just tell, that when she was putting on her make up it made her feel so magical and beautiful.
Lets face it, women love make up, they love to dye their hair, every women wants that unique look, and makeup allows women to literally transform themselves. Far as I know, women get make overs all the time, I can’t keep up with how many wigs my mother has and how many hair products she has as well. And each individual hair product does something special, trust me, I read the labels.
But after watching this documentary it just let me know further the power of fashion, all these smuggler women are willing to risk their lives and their families’ just for beauty. I think this says a lot about women, and I have a better look into the female psyche and a new found respect for it as well. I’ll never forget what my little sister told me years ago inside her car, she basically said that all marketing for beauty products is targeted towards women’s insecurities about themselves, she said It to me with a scarf wrapped around her head and with black sunglasses on. Basically her face was veiled, as though she was in protest of what she just said. But anyways, yea, I really have a new found respect for women, women want to get on the first page of vogue or dior and it opens them up to be vulnerable, but in that vulnerability shows strength.
So yea, that was my little rant. If you like what you read you can subscribe, or drop me a message. Thanks for reading!
